Workstation Performance Issue

I have a Dell workstation with P III 1g Hz, 512 Mb RAM, running windows 2000. I have some concern as far as performance go, everytime I run and stop the application, my CPU level goes up to 100% for about 10-20 seconds. I am tired of waiting.

I wonder if I need a faster workstation, would XP Pro be a better alternative?

Thanks a bunch!A different operating system is probably not going to help. A fresh install of an operating systemmay help if there are configuration problems on the machine. What does your application do? Does it do some intensive processing? I've run ASP.NET applications on a 300 Mhz notebook with half the amount of RAM you have and not had such a delay.
Hi,

at work I have a PIV 1,7 GHz 1Gb Ram HP machine with windows xp professional just installed (after my former computer died). Sometimes I also have to wait for a minute or so (sometimes even longer). It's just vs.net 2003 that keeps a high percentage in my processes. I don't know how to resolve it but I use to put some ideas on paper, go and fill my coffee mug, ...

Grz, Kris.
Reintall might not be a bad idea. The system I am working on isn't processor intensive as it runs well on the web server. It's just sorta slow on my workstation.

Thanks you the info!
