Just wanted to say how impressed I am so far.
I mainly design web pages using html cold fusion and some basic java
And have been hearing a lot about asp.net. Finally decided to come check it out
And wow. It looks to be VERY promising and the forms here are just amazing.
I have never seen forms where ppl can come ask questions and get so many helpful answers with out the usual RTFM / use the search flames hehe.
Very excited to get started. Reading ASP.NET with C# by Vijay Mukhi at work right now and it looks to be the place to start (free and I don't have to run to the bookstore hehehe).
I plan on coding in macromedia mx as I am comfortable with it, so im hopeing everything will be compatible hehe. If any of you have experience with macromedia and asp.net please let me know what ya think. If it's the way to go or if ya recommend something else.
Sorry to ramble on but im excited to get started hehe. Will probably see quite a few posts of me pulling my hair out over some problem here soon hehe.
Travis.I am not expert in "macromedia"
But since "WebMatrix" is free, since you are in the beginning, I would suggest you to start with that.
Check webmatrix at
http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/default.aspx?tabIndex=4&tabId=46
"Since WebMatrix" is from ASP.NET team, I would think it will be more compatable towards the .net product!
Yes, VijayMukhi books are really good. (My back day for C I used his books when I am in INIDA 14 years BACK, I wounder still his books are good!!!)
Welcome to the forums. There are many here to help you along, and I agree.. these forums are a gem in the sense that people are quite helpful without all the attitude.
I havent worked with MX but have seen some code samples.. its pretty much the same 'code' .. i noticed the formatting is different than a VS or Webmatrix coded page but thats about it.
Sreedhar makes a good point: re: WebMatrix. But if you're really into serious development, I think VS.NET has some important edges over WebMatrix. To me, the "intellesense" feature of VS.NET is worth the price of the product.
If you're comfortable with Macromedia, it will be find for getting started, but as I understand things, it doens't really support the full range of ASP.NET controls, nor all features of existing controls, and I would expect that it's sql server integration is not very much. IOW, you'll want to move up to something that is more .NET specialized. when you do, be prepared to HATE the html designer, but love the code editing.
Thanks for the kind words about the kind of support you find here. We do try. And flamers are not welcome. (that "MVP" after my name stands for "Most Valuable Professional", and one of the things most of the MVPs consider a part of "professional" is a coureous demeanor. Who knows, today's newbie may be your boss tomorrow, eh?
"intellesense" feature of VS.NET is worth the price of the product.
: Yes I agree with Jim, VS.NET is the best product for dev's. If you are into .Net, it's worth having it!!!
yea just installed webmatrix running through all that now )
will have to check out vs.net. just hope it dont cost to much hehe.
after spending so much on studio mx hehe )
